Samsung Galaxy Young Review

Samsung recently launched a low-end smart phone as a part of the Galaxy series called the Samsung Galaxy Young. Young is not to be confused with another model released last year around the same time called Samsung Galaxy Y. Technically speaking the model number for Galaxy Y is S5360 and Galaxy Young is S6310.


Being a low-end release it is best not to expect that Galaxy Young will blow you away. But nevertheless, it will definitely manage to put a smile on your face for the market price it will be available.

The phone comes as breather to the low-end customers, as it has been quite some time since; Samsung has had an interesting low-end release. Most of Samsung’s releases have been centered on the top-end of the Galaxy series. A new low or mid-end release gives a chance to open up the segment and not let is stagnate. Let's take a look at the specifications.

Design



Galaxy Young is available only in one color, i.e. White. The outer body is made of plastic and the edges and corner have chrome linings. The display is pegged at 3.27 inches, which is nice for its expected price range.
Design
The screen is a WVGA LCD with capacitive touchscreen and 256K colors. The pixel density also is quite nice. It is expected to be among the top PPI phones in its segment with 176 pixels per inch. The display has multi-touch and is available with pre-loaded motion user interface.

Camera



Camera
Like most others in its range the phone has 3.15MP camera with Geo-tagging features. There is no secondary camera. The video recording facility is available at 24 frames per second.

Processors



Now let’s take a look under the shiny cover. The smart phone has a 1GHz processor and is charged by a 1300 mAh Lithium ion battery. The operating system provided is the nothing but the latest, Android Jelly Bean v4.1.2.

Accelerometer, proximity and compass sensors are provided in the phone. Since it supports the Jelly Bean OS, the phone carries a 768MB RAM with 4GB internal memory. Memory can be expanded to 64GB using a MicroSD card.

Connectivity

The phone supports 2G and 3G network. Its connectivity basket is filled with various options including GPRS, EDGE and Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP. Wi-Fi is available as a hotspot option and as a direct connect option.

Added Features



Extra features available are more or less common among most other smart phones. Galaxy Young has A-GPS support. The browser is supported by HTML. Adobe Flash is not available. Entertainment options are available through Stereo FM radio with RDS and FM Recording. The phone comes fitted with an organizer, image and video editor, document viewer. Social networking options are available through Google Talk and other IM options.

The phone is not that is expected to create ripples in the market, but it should do a nice job satisfying the existing customers if not attract new client base for the company.
